How do you update someone affected by a career experiment before you have a result?

繁體中文版

The Weekend Club · Practical editorial guide · 2026-09-20

Report completed actions, what you know, what remains unknown and any effect on existing commitments. Busyness is not an update, and each attempt need not become a success story. The other person may mainly need clarity about timing and shared work.

Organise the update around commitments

  1. Revisit the agreed scope and deadline.
  2. State new information and unresolved questions.
  3. Propose the next arrangement and seek agreement for changes affecting others.

Unknowns can be useful information

You completed two role interviews but still do not know whether rotating shifts would suit you. Say the next step is checking scheduling conditions rather than announcing a settled direction. If an arrangement ends this month, an unanswered question does not automatically extend your use of that shared time. Make any request to extend explicit.

A filled example

Worked update: Two interviews completed; shift fit remains unknown. Check schedules this month without extending the agreed evening block; discuss any change first.

Should I update people without good news?

Yes, when their arrangements are affected. Clear uncertainty is easier to coordinate around than silence.

Evidence and scope

This format does not guarantee agreement to an extension or turn time invested into evidence of feasibility.
