How do you compare the same job title across different organisations?

繁體中文版

The Weekend Club · Practical editorial guide · 2026-09-20

Break the title into daily tasks, decision scope, collaborators and outputs. An identical label does not establish identical work. Treat vacancy descriptions as information to confirm and use concrete examples to check your interpretation.

Build a task comparison

  1. Extract action verbs from two public vacancies.
  2. Ask about a typical output and collaborator for each major task.
  3. Separate confirmed details from inference instead of filling gaps with imagination.

Compare what happens during the day

One community manager role emphasises producing content; another centres on events and member responses. Ask about ordinary recent tasks rather than comparing titles or company image alone. Request non-confidential descriptions. You need enough detail to understand the work, not access to internal documents or customer information.

A filled example

Worked comparison: Organisation A's community manager delivers weekly articles; B's delivers event plans and member responses. The shared title hides different work.

Does the number of vacancies show which role fits me?

It describes opportunities you found, not whether their tasks suit your preferences and constraints.

Evidence and scope

Vacancies and conversations may both provide incomplete pictures. This guide does not verify any particular employer's conditions.
