How do you identify who absorbs the time cost of a career experiment?
List responsibilities others would inherit alongside your own study or project hours. Record the person, task, timing and agreement. Moving costs onto someone else does not make the experiment low-cost.
Map the transfer of responsibilities
- List the full time block.
- Match it against existing shared responsibilities.
- Confirm alternatives with affected people and adjust the experiment's size.
Count preparation and recovery too
An evening course may affect next morning's school run, not merely the two hours in class. Consider one short session or a different time before assuming a recurring arrangement. Silence is not agreement. Make the practical dependency visible so that people can respond to a specific proposal rather than a vague request for support.
A filled example
Worked map: Wednesday class affects Thursday transport; my partner has not agreed to exchange. Try one weekend session before considering a recurring course.
What to do with your observation
| Observation | Next action |
|---|---|
| Someone is expected to cover without agreement | Coordinate or resize the experiment. |
| Responsibilities are explicitly arranged | Begin the bounded exploration. |
A worksheet you can use
Affected person: __; transferred task: __; timing: __; explicit response: __; smaller alternative: __.
Does everyone need to approve my career direction?
Your direction and shared responsibilities are distinct. Coordinate the parts that directly affect others.
