Why ask about a recent experience instead of a future promise?
A specific experience supplies context and actions you can examine. Future intentions can be useful too, but record them as expectations rather than observed behavior.
Choose an event the person remembers
To understand weekend planning, ask about the last occasion from discovering information to deciding whether to attend. Avoid showing your solution immediately. If details are forgotten, leave gaps instead of requesting a complete invented narrative.
Separate past events from expectations
Canceling because of transport and imagining taking a taxi next time are different evidence. Explore the original constraints before deciding whether your idea addresses them. One experience may also be exceptional.

Explore a related situation, labeling the difference rather than forcing a match.
