How do you join a small group conversation without interrupting?
Check that the exchange appears open, listen for a topic you understand and briefly ask to join at a pause. Choose another moment if the discussion is private, sensitive or clearly closed.
Enter through the existing topic
If the group is discussing a first pottery lesson, mention that you are considering trying it and ask whether you can listen. After a welcoming response, add a small question related to what was said. If you missed the background, ask for a sentence of context instead of pretending to understand the entire story.
Treat the response as information
If people acknowledge you briefly and return to private details, you can move away without repeatedly changing subjects to attract attention. Once included, you do not need to prove that you are entertaining immediately. If you are already in the group and want to welcome someone, check that the topic can be shared before summarizing it.

What if I understand none of the topic?
At a suitable pause, ask what they are discussing. If it cannot comfortably be shared, do not press.
