How do you ask for project help before a deadline?

繁體中文版

The Weekend Club · Practical editorial guide · 2026-09-20

Describe completed work, the specific blockage, timing and smallest useful assistance. Avoid a vague rescue request or surprising collaborators at the last moment. The other person may decline or offer only partial help.

Make the request answerable

  1. State what can already be handed over.
  2. Explain attempts made and information still missing.
  3. Request one bounded action with timing and an alternative if help is unavailable.

Do not silently transfer the whole task

A presentation's content is complete but two chart labels need checking. Ask someone familiar with the data to inspect those slides rather than taking over the deck. If the deadline is no longer feasible, coordinate that separately; requesting help is not resolution.

A filled example

Worked request: Content is ready; labels on slides six and seven need checking. Could you review them by tomorrow morning? Otherwise I will flag them as unconfirmed to the owner.

A worksheet you can use

Completed: __. Blockage: __. Attempts: __. Assistance: __. Deadline: __. Alternative: __.

Does no reply mean they will help?

No. Retain responsibility and flag timing risk while confirmation is missing.

Evidence and scope
