How do you invite another view after a team agrees very quickly?
Ask about a relevant exception rather than appointing someone to oppose the plan. Fast agreement can reflect clarity or incomplete understanding. Make room for clarification before deciding whether discussion needs reopening.
Test the conditions behind agreement
- Name a condition the plan depends on.
- Ask what would change if it failed.
- Record relevant evidence and an alternative without turning every hypothetical into a task.
Make the exception useful
For an outdoor display, ask which materials cannot move inside if it rains. That is more concrete than who disagrees. If a workable backup already exists, proceed rather than endlessly adding opinions to demonstrate discussion.
A filled example
Worked check: We will use the outdoor plan; if rain prevents protecting the paper display, we switch indoors in advance.
What to do with your observation
| Observation | Next action |
|---|---|
| Exception changes feasibility | Gather information or prepare an alternative. |
| Hypothetical is irrelevant to the choice | Record it without delaying indefinitely. |

Does every decision need this exercise?
Match effort to consequence and reversibility. A small easily changed choice need not become a risk meeting.
