What should your first follow-up message after a good conversation say?
Use a contact method the person agreed to share, mention a real shared topic and offer one easy-to-decline next step. A pleasant exchange does not establish willingness for a large time commitment.
Provide recognition and a reason
Briefly identify where you met and what part of the discussion prompted the message. If you offered a public resource, check the link and send the most relevant item. Avoid an unrequested reading bundle or moving private conversation details into a group. The message should be understandable without a long reconstruction of the event.
Make only one request
You might ask whether they would like the exhibition information you mentioned, rather than simultaneously arranging a meeting, asking about jobs and requesting introductions. Leave room for no response. Read receipts and reply speed do not provide a complete evaluation of the relationship; let further contact depend on mutual willingness.
A worksheet you can use
Where we met: __. Shared topic: __. Reason for writing: __. One optional next step: __. Check that the message contains no hidden second request.
Is there a fixed number of hours in which to message?
No universal deadline applies. Choose a suitable time while you still remember the exchange accurately.
Evidence and scope
Use consented contact details. Do not hunt for private accounts or send repeated generic messages. A reply is not guaranteed.
