Does a confident group still need evidence for its plan?
Separate willingness to act from confirmed conditions. Confidence cannot establish capacity, timing or user need. Check the assumption most likely to change whether the plan is feasible.
Turn confidence into a checkable question
- State what the group expects to happen.
- Identify the external condition behind that expectation.
- Choose an affordable check and label the condition unknown until confirmed.
Check what enthusiasm cannot supply
Everyone believes a weekend talk can work, but nobody has confirmed venue access. Energy cannot substitute for that confirmation. Resolve it before assigning detailed tasks without creating a large research exercise for every minor decision.
A filled example
Worked check card: We expect a weekend talk to work; venue access is essential. Confirm through the official channel before announcing the location.
What to do with your observation
| Observation | Next action |
|---|---|
| A critical condition is unconfirmed | Perform a bounded check first. |
| Uncertainty is low-impact and reversible | Record the assumption and try a small version. |
A worksheet you can use
Shared belief: __. Dependency: __. Evidence: __. Unknown: __. Small check: __. Decision afterward: __.
Must all uncertainty disappear before acting?
No. Match checks to consequence and reversibility, and state the uncertainty you still accept.
Evidence and scope
