Can sound reveal another side of a familiar place?
From a safe, unobstructive position, notice distance, continuity and change in sound. Distinguish what you hear from guesses about its source. Closing your eyes or making a recording is unnecessary.
Follow one kind of change
At a park entrance, compare a continuous background with occasional short sounds. You need not identify everything or follow a sound into an unsafe or restricted area. If sound observation is uncomfortable or inaccessible, try light, movement or texture instead.
Keep source guesses as questions
An occasional metallic sound is a description; identifying its machinery may be an inference. Confirm only through suitable public information rather than recording nearby conversations. On another visit, compare circumstances without demanding an unusual discovery.
