Was career exploration wasted if you return to your original field?

繁體中文版

The Weekend Club · Practical editorial guide · 2026-09-19

Judge exploration by what it clarified, not only whether you switched. Record newly understood preferences, possible changes within your field and unanswered questions before deciding how to stay.

Make returning an evidence-informed choice

  1. List activities you actually tried.
  2. Describe the observation that changed your view of your original work.
  3. Select one adjustment to explore while retaining untested questions.

Staying can still lead to action

After a small event-planning exercise, you may prefer organising information to coordinating on-site activity. That does not establish suitability for every data role, but can start a task-allocation discussion. One difficult exercise cannot represent an entire profession.

Should I apologise to people who supported a change?

Thank them and explain what you learned. Address any concrete commitments or handovers separately.

Evidence and scope

Personal exercises do not reproduce a full career or guarantee changes to your current role.
