Do more contacts always create more career opportunities?
Contact counts alone cannot establish opportunity. Consider whether information is relevant, interaction is voluntary and you can turn what you learn into preparation or action.
Separate numbers from usable information
Adding twenty contacts may not help if you cannot describe what you want to understand. Review the last question a conversation answered and whether you checked or acted on it. Assess your learning process rather than assigning people a usefulness score.
Choose a sustainable level of interaction
Keep questions you care about and leave room for others not to respond. Connection strength in research is an operational network measure, not an instruction to distance yourself from close friends. If your attention is stretched, complete a promised reply or your own preparation before expanding your list.

Should I set a monthly target for meeting people?
You can use it as a personal reminder, but reaching a number does not demonstrate increased opportunity.
