How do you find options when a discussion seems to have only two sides?

Locate the level of disagreement

Extending an event may appeal to someone seeking conversation and concern someone relying on transport. Separate goals, methods and constraints instead of assigning everyone to opposing camps. Do not invent positions for silent participants.

Explore a conditional alternative

Ending the main event on time with an optional extension is one candidate. Moving content to another day is another. Ask affected people rather than assuming either resolves the issue, and retain remaining tradeoffs.

What if there is no third option?

Describe the genuine differences. You need not manufacture consensus to appear agreeable.
