How much transition time should you leave between weekend activities?
Estimate leaving, travel, food, changing and plausible delays before combining two bookings. There is no universal number of minutes. A fixed arrival deadline calls for a more conservative choice than an informal drop-in.
Put the transition on the calendar
- Check when you can actually leave the first activity.
- Estimate travel and necessary preparation.
- Compare this with the latest arrival time and change an arrangement if the gap is too small.
Compare more than starting times
A workshop ends at four and a performance starts at five. Cleaning equipment, walking to transit, eating and entering the venue all use the apparent gap. Consult official timings and your own requirements rather than assuming every step will go perfectly. Include any accessibility arrangements you need to confirm.
A filled example
Worked estimate: Finish 16:00, leave 16:15, travel 35 minutes, enter for 15 minutes. A 17:00 performance leaves insufficient room; select another showing.
What to do with your observation
| Observation | Next action |
|---|---|
| The plan works only with no delay | Change the timing or remove one activity. |
| Transitions and an alternative fit | Confirm the combined plan. |

Is leaving empty time wasting the weekend?
The gap may serve necessary transitions. It does not need another activity to justify its existence.
