Those familiar apps— do you know which ones were designed by men, and which ones were designed by women?

Over the past few years, we’ve noticed an interesting pattern: platforms founded by men and those founded by women often reflect completely different ways of thinking.

This difference goes far beyond who starts the conversation or how the interface looks — it extends to the core product logic, the user experience, and even the fundamental reasons why people choose to download the app in the first place.

🔥 Tinder — Founded by Men

  • Focused on 1-on-1 romantic relationships
  • Emphasis on appearance and visual advantage
  • Feels more like a competitive arena —prioritizing quantity and speed
  • Low emphasis on authenticity of profiles and photos (high number of fake accounts)
🍽️ Timeleft — Founded by Men
  • Group-based, non-romantic focus
  • Matches people for in-person dinners every Wednesday, often followed by clubbing
  • Low emphasis on authenticity of user info and photos (no fake accounts, but many users lie about their age to get assigned to younger group)
🐝 Bumble — Founded by a Woman
  • One-on-one, romance-focused
  • Emphasis on photo-based selection, but women must message first — reducing unwanted messages and harassment
  • Photo verification is optional (Fun fact: Bumble’s founder is the ex-girlfriend of Tinder’s founder)
🍕 The Weekend Club — Founded by a mix of Man & Woman
  • Group-based, non-romantic focus

  • Matches people for in-person brunch every weekend at 11 AM

  • Includes identity verification and a blacklist system to ensure and improve overall user quality

From our own observations, platforms designed by men tend to create an atmosphere that feels more like nighttime, high-energy, fast-paced parties,

while women founders often aim to build experiences rooted in comfort, safety, and fairness.

When we were designing The Weekend Club, we asked ourselves:
How many people aren’t necessarily looking to date, but simply want to meet new friends?

We wanted to reduce anxiety, create a space that feels comfortable and natural, and let all kinds of connections — romantic or not — happen organically.
If you feel the same way, come join us this weekend and make the most of your downtime with The Weekend Club.
